American Meteorological Society, a scientific, educational, and professional society of meteorologists and others interested in the atmospheric sciences. Its objectives are the development and spreading of knowledge of meteorology in all its phases and applications. The society conducts national meetings and specialized conferences and workshops, issues numerous publications, and grants awards, citations, and scholarship aid. It was organized in 1919. There are about 11,000 members. Headquarters are in Boston.
