Kingdom, in natural science, one of several groups into which objects are classified. All living things are placed into one of the following kingdoms: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, or Animalia. All lifeless things belong to the mineral kingdom. The classification of living things is part of the science of taxonomy.
