Ley, Willy

Ley, Willy (1906-1969), a German-American science writer. Ley was born in Berlin. In 1927, after leaving the University of Berlin, he became interested in space travel and helped to organize a rocket research group. Ley settled in the United States in 1935 and devoted much of his time to arousing interest in rocketry and space travel. He became a citizen in 1944. In 1947 he was appointed a technical consultant to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Ley's books include The Conquest of Space (1949); The Exploration of Mars (with Wernher von Braun. 1956); Rockets, Missiles and Space Travel (1957); Exotic Zoology (1959); Watchers of the Skies (19653); Dawn of Zoology (1968).
