Norther, an occasional strong, cold wind that blows from northern Canada to the Gulf States and the Gulf of Mexico. The norther is often accompanied by thunderstorms or snow. Winds may blow at speeds up to 60 miles per hour (100 km/h). Temperatures may fall as much as 40 F. (22 C.) in 24 hours.
