Write! Write like the wind!

The Good News

According to the American Wind Energy Association website:

"U.S. wind farms now generate more electricity than any other nation in the world and are on track to expand by over 45% this year." (Check out sister site Treehugger's report on why wind rocks, [url='http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/07/usa-number-one-wind-power.php']here.)

The Bad News

...the expiration of the federal Production Tax Credit (PTC) ? set to expire by the end of 2008 -- threatens this spectacular progress.

Why You Should Care

Again according to AWEA, without a PTC extension, the future of wind will be in jeopardy as we head into 2009. They go on to cite a study that if we don't renew the PTC, we risk:

- Losing 116,000 jobs

- Wasting the over $19 billion investment in the wind and solar industries that have already been spent.

What You Can Do

Tell your members of congress to extend the PTC. The AWEA makes it a breeze (sorry, couldn't resist).
