Berry, a fleshy fruit with seeds embedded in its pulp. The skin may be thick or thin. Examples of berries are the fruits of the grape, tomato, garden pepper, currant, blueberry, cranberry, and eggplant. A hesperidium is a type of berry with a thick skin and juicy pulp separated into juice sacs. Citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruits, are examples. A pepo is a thick-skinned berry, represented by the cucumber, watermelon, and squash.

The term berry is loosely applied to many kinds of fruits more correctly called aggregate fruits. These include the strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry.
