Donald Culross Peattie

Peattie, Donald Culross (1898–1964), a United States botanist and author. His nature writings are marked by poetic prose, sage philosophy, and scientific accuracy. He also wrote travel books, children's books, and novels. Peattie was born in Chicago, and graduated from Harvard University in 1922. He was a botanist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 1922–24, and nature columnist for the Washington Star, 1924–35.

His books include: Cargoes and Harvests (1926); An Almanac for Moderns (1935); Immortal Village (1945); Parade with Banners (1957).
