Cockscomb, or Celosia, a common annual garden flower of the amaranth family. Cockscomb is native to the tropics. The plants grow to three feet (90 cm) in height, with red, white, yellow, or purple flowers. The tiny blossoms are crowded together in dense, velvety masses at the top of stiff stalks.

One of the species has flower heads in the form of a slender crest resembling a cock's comb. Other shapes have been developed. Under suitable conditions the plants will bloom from midsummer until late autumn.

The cockscomb belongs to the family Amaranthaceae. The parent species is Celosia argentea; the crested, C. cristata.
