Ladies' Tresses

Ladies' Tresses, a wildflower found mostly in northern temperate areas. There are about 200 species. Common ladies' tresses grows in wet meadows in North America east of the Rocky Mountains. It is 6 to 24 inches (15 to 60 cm) tall and bears a twisted spike of tiny, creamy white flowers. It has grasslike leaves.

Ladies' tresses make up the genus Spiranthes of the family Orchidaceae. Common ladies' tresses is S. cernua.
