Arnold Arboretum, the botanical garden of Harvard University, located in Boston. It was founded in 1872 to encourage the scientific study and cultivation of trees and shrubs. The arboretum has more than 5,000 kinds of woody plants on about 265 acres (107 hectares) of land. The plants are grouped according to family. Most of the plants are native to North America, Europe, or temperate Asia. The park is open to the public.
